The stranger writers aka the Duffer brothers left the whole fandom on-hook when they allegedly killed hopper in season 3 and with the Byers moving out of Hawkins.
Fans have been desperately waiting ever since for season 4 after season 3 ended with a drastic battle of starcourt and some emotional notes.
Well, it’s almost been more than a year since the stranger things season 4 trailer dropped on YouTube and the title for the first episode was announced not just that the on-demand show’s social media account and the cast have been teasing the fans with hints and pictures from the set about season 4.
Stranger Things Season 4 Filming
In February 2020, Stranger Things 4 officially began filming.
Scenes had already been shot in Lithuania, according to sources two episodes were already shot prior to shutting down in March due to the pandemic and the cast and team were ready to shoot at the time of shutdown in Atlanta, Georgia.
Seven months following shut down the production for season four resumed in Atlanta, Georgia.
The cast returned to the 4th season in late September 2020. Season 4 is still being filmed as of January 2020.
Which cast members will return to season 4
Most of our favorite and the original cast members will be returning to season 4 including:
Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Noah Schnapp (Will), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), and Sadie Sink (Max) will all be back along with Winona Ryder as everyone’s favorite Joyce Byers and our beloved David Harbour as Jim Hopper.
Dacre Montgomery probably wouldn’t be returning, since his character, Billy was killed at the end of the season by Mind-Flayer in the battle of Starcourt. Unless there are any flashback episodes which is highly uncertain.
All About the New Cast and Their Characters
Netflix announced a bunch of new faces and big names to join the season 4 production back in November and here is everything we know about the new characters:
- Eduardo Franco (Argyle) – Jonathan’s new best friend, a cheerful stoner who delivers pizza for Surfer Boy Pizza.
- Jamie Campbell Bower (Peter Ballard) – a man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital.
- Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson) – who runs The Hellfire Club.
- Mason Due (Jason Carver)- a rich athlete dating popular girls at school.
- Robert Englund (Victor Creel) – a troubled, intimidating man prisoned in a psychiatric hospital.
- Tom Wlaschiha (Dmitri) – charming Russian prison guard who befriends Hopper.
- Sherman Augustus (Colonel Sullivan) -as a sane, intelligent man who believes to know how to stop the evil in Hawkins.
- Nikola Djuricko (Yuri) – a Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes.
- The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fame Joel Stoffer, whose character is yet to be revealed.
When will stranger things season 4 release?
No release date has been officially announced.
During a recent Instagram Live Q&A David Harbor stated that the fourth season is set to premiere in 2021, Netflix is likely to push the release date since the production was shut down over the safety issues of COVID-19.
Speculations are season 4 will come out in the late fall of 2021.

In 2017, the creators of the series, the Duffer brothers, told Vulture. “We think it is a four-season thing and then out,” said Ross Duffer. His brother, Matt Duffer went on adding: “I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.” Hinting the web series coming to an end at season 4.
But recently in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ross Duffer said that the story has not yet been wrapped up.
“Season 4 isn’t going to be the end,” he added. “We know what the end is, and we know when it is. The shutdown gave us time to look ahead and figure out what’s best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we’re going to have to tell the story.”
Well, when the stranger writers themselves confirmed the story ahead of season 4 fans are definitely in for a treat.
