PM Modi repeals the 2020 Farm Laws

On Friday, 19th of November 2021 PM Modi while addressing the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Announced the withdrawal of the farm laws that were enacted in 2020 that had sparked a series of controversies around it. From protests at the singhu border to rallies around the capital, farm laws faced a year-long protest.

While addressing the nation PM Modi announced the withdrawal of three farm laws & appealed to the protesting farmers to stop their ongoing agitation and return to their homes & fields. During his address, PM Modi stressed on the importance of farm laws and the benefits they would have on lean farmers.

While explaining the reasons for the withdrawal PM Modi said that we were not able to convince certain sections of farmers and that the decision to revoke the farm laws has been taken to maintain peace & stability in the nation and for a greater cause.

Right from their enactment, the farm laws were faced by a series of objections, protests & rallies which were supported by various opposition parties in an attempt to support the farmers voice & concerns.

During his address, the Prime Minister said that he is further taking a series of steps to improve the agricultural sector with a focused approach to empower the farmers of the country. PM Modi stressed the importance of promotion of zero budget-based farming which includes the use of only organic fertilizers & seeds.

PM Modi also ensured that he is committed to make the minimum support price (MSP) more accountable & efficient.
A committee comprising of farmers, agriculture experts, agro-economist, and central and state representatives on Zero Budget-based cultivation was also announced with a single aim to take decisions & advise on respective matters of Zero Budget-based farming
