India records two deaths following Covid-19 shot, not due to vaccination, claims health officials.

Oxford & AstraZeneca’s Covishield produced by the Pune-based Serum Institute and Hyderabad’s Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin which was developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research was approved by the Drug Control General of India earlier this month for emergency use after the two corona vaccines phase III clinical trials were successfully completed.

India started the covid-19 vaccination dry run throughout the country on 2nd January. Within six to eight months, it is targeting to vaccinate more than three crore frontline and healthcare workers throughout the country.

So, far 3.81 lakh people have been vaccinated in 7,704 sessions.  

Apparently, two people who had received the Covid-19 vaccine – one in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, and one in Karnataka, Ballery were reportedly died, but health officials claimed that the death was due to co-morbid and not due to covid-19 vaccination.

The first case was that on Sunday a day after being vaccinated, Mahipal Singh, a 52-year-old man, was dead.

“The three-doctor post-mortem indicated death due to cardiopulmonary disease. There were pockets of pus in the lungs and a swollen heart. Death is not linked to vaccination,” said Dr. Manohar Agnani, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Although Singh’s son, Vishal, said that his condition worsened after taking the vaccine on Saturday and that he held the government responsible for it, health officials, including the Chief Medical Officer, denied that death was related to the vaccine.

In the second case, the post-mortem procedure of a 43-year-old Nagaraju, who died on Monday, two days after receiving the vaccine at the State Department of Health in Bellary, the Ministry stated that.

“The cause of death is an anterior infarction of the wall with cardiopulmonary failure. The post-mortem was scheduled at the Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary, today,” Agnani added.

Deputy Commissioner Pavan Mallapati specified in Bellary that a direct association of the vaccine with the death of the worker was ruled out by the AEFI district committee.

On Monday, 1,48,266 vaccines were Administered in 25 states and UTs.

The highest vaccinations were reported by Karnataka at 36888, tailed by Odisha at,22579, West Bengal at 11,588 Telangana 10,352, and Andhra Pradesh at 9,758.

After a series of events, the number of people taking vaccines has been deteriorating day by day; people have become hesitant to take get vaccinated.

Although the vaccine (covaxin or covishield) which was given to the people is unknown.

Experts in public health remarked that vaccine Covid-19 should be promoted because vaccines generally do not cause death.

With the hope of controlling the pandemic, the government started a dry run amid criticism, which has taken a bit of a bumpy road.

The Drugs Controller General of India’s (DCGI) Expert Committee considered both vaccines, which have been deployed in India to be safe. The vaccine that has been given to the dead is uncertain.

 A provisional review of the AstraZeneca phase 3 vaccine trial has been released and no safety problems have been reported. Says, Lalit Kant, the Indian Medical Research Council scientist and former director of epidemiology and communicable diseases (ICMR).

On 18th January India recorded 10,050 new covid-19 cases, the number of active cases in India is 2,08,014 and the total cases so far 10.6 million with 15,30,000 reported deaths.

Some 76.17% of new cases occur from the six States and UTs.

 At 5,005 the most daily new cases are still reports by Kerala. Accompanied by 3,081 and 744 cases, respectively by Maharashtra and Karnataka. In the past 24 hours, seven regions reported 83.45 percent of the total deaths. Maharashtra’s confirmed fifty deaths. The government also reported 21 deaths in Kerala and 12 in West Bengal.
