French Arms Company Sued

Sanjay Bhandari Sues a leading French arms company over unpaid commission in the 2011 IAF deal. Sanjay Bhandari, a well-known mediator in the ‘purchase of Mirage warplanes’ filed a petition in Paris Court. 

In a series of recent developments Arms broker Sanjay Bhandari, who is facing serious charges of money laundering and tax evasion in Indian courts, has now approached a British court seeking the payment of his commission that is due from the past ten years. 

During his hearing, he told the court that the Indian Air Force’s Mirage-2000 fighter jet upgrade contract had been awarded to the Thales, a leading French arms dealer company. 

The petition clearly states that the petitioner has been working for Thales since 2008 and has arranged a meeting with a senior Indian defense official to mediate and finalize the terms of the crucial sales of the advanced Mirage aircraft to India.

 As of Now, Thales supplies key ‘avionics’ equipment to Dassault Aviation, the manufacturer of India’s most ambitious Rafale fighter jet aircraft.

He further revealed that Thales had promised a sum total of around 2 crore euros (approximately Rs. 167 crores) for mediating in the Mirage contract that stands worth 2.4 billion euros (approximately Rs. 20,000 crores), but he was only paid 90 lakh euros (approximately Rs. 75 crores) and released thereafter.

The British daily Telegraph has recently reported that Sanjay Bhandari has filed a petition in the Tribunal de Commerce court in Nanterre, near Paris, for immediately seeking the remaining commission amount from the respective company.

Thales is in the French consortium that is responsible to negotiate the efficient supply of Rafale-B and Rafale-C fighter jets to the Indian Air Force.nThe BJP has recently accused Bhandari and the Congress Party of maintaining ‘good relations’ with the warplane modernization and up-gradation deal during the UPA regime.

Thales is in the French consortium to negotiate the supply of Rafale-B and Rafale-C fighter jets to the Indian Air Force. The BJP has accused Bhandari and the Congress of maintaining good relations with the warplane modernization deal during the UPA regime. 

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said Congress was focusing on conspiracies every time defense purchases were made. Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra and Bhandari are accused of being good friends.
