UK prime minister Boris Johnson calls off India visit

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has canceled his visit to India. The Indian as well as the British government declared on Monday that the decision was taken in view of the severity of the coronavirus in India.

He was scheduled to visit India during April 25-26 but his visit was canceled due to the rapid rise of covid-19 cases in India.

In January prime minister Johnson was supposed to attend the Republic Day celebrations but was unable to attend due to the surge of coronavirus cases in Britain, and eventually, the country went into lockdown due to the double mutations’ rapid spreading.

However, both the officials in Delhi and London declared that it was a mutual agreement to cancel the tour.

Responding to the cancellation of the tour, Boris Johnson said, “I believe it is only sensible to postpone to cancel the tour keeping in mind what’s happening in India.”

He said the decision was taken after discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  Stating he couldn’t visit before due to the corona situation in the past and now India‌ is facing the same condition. He expressed his sympathy and hoped India would recover soon.

The Center has announced that the summit will be held virtually soon. Since the cancellation of the visit of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

 Boris Johnson said has frustrating it is to attend a summit virtually he would hope to visit the country and meet the prime minister in the near future.

 Meanwhile, The British National Health Security Agency issued directions on Monday to add India to the red list in the wake of 77 percent cases of the double mutant virus of Indian origin. Which will limit the entry of external passengers and require all British nationals traveling from India to Britain to quarantine at a hotel for ten days.
